META Teletherapy:
Mental Health Platform for HBCUs

META provides online therapy via mobile phone, tablet and desktop platforms. Using the free iPhone and Android app, students can sign up, search for and connect instantly with therapists for chat, video or phone therapy sessions — confidentially, anywhere.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), in partnership with META Teletherapy, is pleased to announce it has received a $270,000 grant from ECMC Foundation to make mental health services available to students via the META online platform.

The grant will provide HBCUs with free access through September 30, 2021 to META, a mental health platform that connects the schools’ counselors or META’s network of providers to students. However, participating HBCUs adopting META during the free period will receive favorable rates well after grant coverage ends. Student support funds are limited and available to schools on a first-come, first-served basis. So, act quickly to be able to provide free mental health counseling services to your students.

The platform provides an easy, private, and HIPAA-compliant option and promotes the use of teletherapy to improve the emotional and mental health of students.

Students download the META app for free to access counseling services. The grant includes a $50,000 student support fund to help offset financial hardships that students may experience when receiving care from mental health professionals.

META will onboard school counseling staff to the online platform as well as provide students with access to META’s diverse set of licensed professionals, including a nationwide network consisting of 25%+ Black providers. There’s no investment in staff, space, or technology from the schools. Schools implement META in a matter of days to expand counseling services to students in a remote format, lowering wait times, promoting social distancing, and eliminating any stigma associated with visiting in-person health centers.
