Job Description

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the Black College Community. TMCF member-schools include the publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs).

The Senior Manager of Finance, General Ledgers & Grants will work closely with the VP of Finance & Operations on reconciling activity to the general ledger, as well as providing grant support and financial guidance to the program staff.

Performance Expectations

Senior Manager of Finance, is expected to:

Finance:

  • Reconcile monthly activity to the general ledger as directed by the VP of Finance & Operations to include processing transactions, posting journal entries, and reconciling accounting entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with reconciling accounting entries during monthly and yearly close.
  • Assist with the fiscal audit, including creating required schedules and collating information as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Grants Administration:

  • Prepare monthly pro forma reports for program directors.
  • Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations administered by the grantor; oversee special audits conducted by grantor.
  • Perform functions of financial administration and reporting to include, but not limited to: preparation and timely submission of grant applications and reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets, coordination of budgeted funds, screening and processing requests for expenditures and ensuring the timely application for reimbursement from the state.
  • Serve as a liaison with principals and other departments on issues regarding grants.
  • Assign certain grants and/or related responsibilities to individual budget analysts and coordinate their activities related to the grants assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of grant processes including accounting and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in the use of financial management software to include spreadsheets and databases, required.
  • Ability to interpret complex grant funding and accounts payables requirements, submissions, and budget projections.
  • Ability to interpret federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding grant administration.
  • Ability to review the work of others to ensure conformance to standards; ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of staff, both orally and in writing required.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Committed to learning with the ability to think strategically and analytically.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends is required
  • Ability to organize, plan and direct programs
  • Self-motivated- able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to be resourceful and dependable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, clients, alumni, senior staff, corporate and nonprofit executives.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and demonstrated experience in accounting obtained during work history.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong technology skills in word processing and database management
  • Must be fluent in MS Office Suite for Mac including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively in a team as well as the ability to work independently, in an often very busy office environment.
