Cheniere Commits $500,000 to Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholarships to Students Enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities

HOUSTON — Cheniere Energy, Inc. (“Cheniere”) (NYSE American: LNG), the largest U.S. exporter of liquefied natural gas, today announced $500,000 in scholarships to students attending selected Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). Cheniere’s scholarship announcement coincides with the anniversary of Thurgood Marshall’s swearing in as the nation’s first African American Supreme Court Justice this Saturday, October 2.“This commitment to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund is a testament to our own commitment to support the communities where we live and work,” said Jack Fusco, President and CEO of Cheniere. “TMCF serves as a resource for over 300,000 students, and we are proud to partner with this organization to help students in our communities pursue their dreams.” The four universities below were chosen due to their proximity to Cheniere’s U.S. operating and office locations. Students attending the following universities can apply:

  • Howard University in Washington, D.C.
  • Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas
  • Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas

Cheniere’s $500,000 commitment will fund scholarships over the next three years, and students will be awarded up to $6,000 per semester. In addition to the financial commitment, Cheniere will also provide opportunities for the students to engage with the company’s employees working in their chosen field of study. The scholarship application process begins October 18 on the TMCF website. Details for applicant submissions may be accessed here. Since its founding in 1987, TMCF has awarded over $300 million in scholarships in support of students at HBCUs. TMCF is a 501(c)(3) organization that offers scholarships based on merit and financial needs of students attending a TMCF member-school. The $500,000 donation, presented by the Cheniere Foundation, is inclusive of scholarships and associated fees.
