Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and Baxter International Foundation are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Three (3) scholars will be selected to receive a one-year scholarship up to $7,000 ($3,500 per semester) for the 2021-2022 academic school year (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore at a school listed below during the 2021-2022 academic school year.
    • Howard University
    • Hampton University
    • Norfolk State University
    • Spelman College
    • Xavier University
  • Students must be African American and/or of African descent students during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Open to STEM majors.
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a financial need and/or be pell grant eligible
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.
  • Parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) cannot currently be employed by Baxter International.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

  • Provide a copy of the 2021-2022 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of 2020-2021 Fall grades and cumulative GPA.
  • Please provide an email address for one recommender to complete a character reference form. They will be required to answer three questions regarding your character reference
  • Answer the following questions:
    • Essay (250-word max)
      • Baxter’s mission is to ‘Save and Sustain Lives’, how does your major help relate back to this mission?
    • Hirevue Question (up to 1 min)
      • Please tell us about a time you overcame a significant obstacle, and how did you do it?
      • What’s your superpower? How do you propose using your superpower to advance your career in STEM?
