Scholarship Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and Truist Bank are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending one of TMCF’s member-schools that include 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Twenty-five (25) scholars will be selected to receive a scholarship up to $5,000 for the 2021-2022 academic school year which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior or senior at a school listed below during the 2021-2022 academic school year.
  • Must attend one of the following schools during the 2021-2020 academic year:
    • Alabama A&M University
    • Alabama State University
    • Bowie State University
    • Claflin University
    • Clark Atlanta University
    • Elizabeth City State University
    • Fayetteville State University
    • Fisk University
    • Florida A&M University
    • Hampton University
    • Howard University
    • Johnson C. Smith University
    • Morehouse College
    • NC A&T University
    • Norfolk State University
    • North Carolina Central University
    • Prairie View A&M University
    • Savannah State University
    • South Carolina State University
    • Spelman College
    • Tennessee State University
    • Texas Southern University
    • Tuskegee University
    • Virginia Union University
    • Virginia State University
    • Winston Salem State University
    • Open to the following majors:
    • Business
    • Computer Science
    • Economics
    • Engineering
    • Finance
    • Related majors
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a financial need.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

  • Provide a copy of the 2021-2022 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of Fall 2020 grades and cumulative GPA.
  • Please provide an email address for one recommender to complete a character reference form. They will be required to answer three questions regarding your character reference.
  • Answer the following essay question (Maximum of 250 words):
    • Truist Bank believes we come from all walks of life but share a common purpose—to inspire and build better lives and communities. How will your education inspire and build better lives for you, your family, and the community?
