Scholarship Overview

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), and the Walmart Foundation are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding first-generation students attending one of TMCF 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or a Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Sixty-one (61) scholars will be selected to receive a scholarship up to $6,200 for the 2020-2021 academic school year ($3,100 for each semester), which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees.

Eligibility requirements:

• Be a first-generation college student
• Be a graduating high school senior for the 2020-2021 academic school year.
• Be enrolled full-time as a freshman at a TMCF member-school during the 2021-2022 academic school year.
• Must have submitted a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA to your current or prospective College or University.
• Current cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher from high school.
• Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
• Able to demonstrate a financial need.
• Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

• Provide the high school transcript (official or unofficial) from your most recently completed academic term. This should include your Fall 2020 grades and a cumulative GPA.
• Answer the following video question (max 2 minutes):
